Reidar, Eeli and Ailu

We were going up north to Norway in 1972 to make the opening music for aTV film on Reidar Särestöniemi. It had to be a Lappish 'joiku', of course. I had ordered a joiku from Nils-Aslak Valkeapää. He wanted it to be performed by the best possible performer, and it was Mikkel Bongo from Norway. So there we went. Finally, the joiku got its origin in the fell. Translated into English, the lyrics were something like this: "Lo Reidar he paints big pictures the fells big lichen beautiful even on stones the sun talked big I still sing Reidar Reidar yeah."

In this picture from the left, Reidar Särestöniemi, Eeli Aalto and Nils-Aslak Valkeapää. We were accompanied by cameraman Jorma Karhunen and sound recorder Seppo Vakkuri, who both took care of shooting photos.

The God's Theatre, July 1, 1987

This photo is from the notorious "show" of the God's Theatre in the Oulu City Theatre in 1987. Those who were last present went away when the dry powder extinguisher filled the auditorium with its spray, the bangers were sizzling and the smell of shit caught your breath. These pictures have not been published before except in the TV film "Paska juttu" [Shitty Thing] which I made on the event later that year. These are the only photos of this event.

Old Pictures

I dug in the cupboard and found some of my old paintings, the oldest from the 1950's. No-one except my family has ever seen any of them. I don't like exhibitions. Online pages are something different. They are a better way. Those who come looking here are seeking for some private expression. My works are private by nature.
