Self-Portrait, 1998
Sometimes we stop at our own picture. It does not matter if the picture is new or old. It also does not matter if we are watching a photo, the mirror or a painted self-portrait. We do not really recognise ourselves in any of them. We are like flowing water that is constantly changing its form and just going on and on.
In this self-portrait which I painted 12 years ago I am wearing winter clothes. I used go outdoors a lot even if it was very cold. I had been painting for five years at a fierce pace. You can also see it in this painting that it has come about without any major pains. I most probably felt a compulsion to make it.
